After the match, BBock brought her teammate Lindsey Horan over to meet Hope. The whole sequence had the look of a fan nervously meeting someone she admired, complete with helpful BBock giving her an encouraging push forward with a hand on her back.

They didn’t talk long, but the whole sequence looked pretty adorable from where we were sitting.

This is what I posted on Equalizer. I also cast shade on Pinoe for tweeting about Portland today. Not cool.

“I don’t know what to say about Reign. It’s like there are three Reigns. The Full Squad that exists in fantasy land and would probably be good. The Depleted Squad which we are familiar with. Now we have this Phantom Limb squad. The whole “next man up” strategy of chronically missing players and injury after injury looked grim in theory and has proven so in execution too. I’d like to see the average age of the team they are actually able to field. It’s probably league youngest. I slogged through a similar season with the Chicago Bulls this year. I guess I’m in for round two.

Hearing that Deines will be out at the very least four weeks because of what I hoped was just an ankle tweak is terrible for them. Reed is projected to be out the same amount of time too. I’m not sure Winters is actually healthy herself or just coming on because we need her. The defense is hurting to the point they put Kyle in which was insanity against Sky Blue. Speedy players against a player who has been criticized for lack effort and speed all season. I guess that shows how depleted they are.

Will the league revisit their rules about player movement, injury replacement, and cap or are they content to let Reign slog along as is? They didn’t care through any other stage of problems Reign faced so I guess they don’t see a problem with what is happening in Seattle now.”

I believe so, but there are two problems: 1) Money. It isn’t just an open roster slot, it is staying under the cap. You can’t just pay Lotta to come over after she’s done in France. The money to attract an impact forward isn’t there. If you got allocated them you have them. You can’t buy them. That’s the story of the league. 2) Available players. The league is short on forwards. Good ones won’t be given up and there aren’t really any obvious unsigned players out there. A trade would cost you a lot and I don’t think anyone wants to give up a proven scorer for what Seattle has.

i know hope doesn't solve the problem of getting goals but i do think her leadership will be a great addition for the team. she'll stiffen up the spine of the team and maybe give them some more confidence to get forward more since she's a huge improvement over betos, who has been decent but not great.

Betos…can block shots but that’s the extent of her game. Hope will definitely be a boost to the defense and organization and confidence, but we desperately need scoring. There won’t be any Chicago sized blowouts, but losing by one is still losing. The defense needs pressure relief only scoring brings. Teams are not afraid of our scoring and play us differently because of it. It puts the defense in a whole from moment one. We need to bloody their nose early on and no one to do even that.
