Not gonna lie, I thought the exact same thing when she was describing her ideal partner. Still wouldn't be opposed to the idea of Hope and Maks as more than just dancing partners ;)
I think it is more than established they are really close friends and admire each other a lot. They are the best in their respective worlds. Plus they went through a lot together. Especially for someone who values loyalty and, uh, dramatic expressions of that loyalty like she does. He passed the “Carli test” with flying colors. Too bad they are in love with the opposite coastlines. Still hope he goes to see her play in London. I am not entirely sure Maks knows how big her stage is. Hope he gets to see it first hand.
Hope did yet another radio show the other day. This time she didn’t lose her voice.
They tried to press for an opinion on concussions and she said it’s a dangerous sport but as a GK she doesn’t head the ball so… should have asked her about goal hooks and Mexico and punching people out.
At one point a guy awkwardly said “I love you” out of the blue. What a dork.
She’s a really private person, but she has a book coming out so that will be coming to an end.
What is it with guys being the ones pumping her for relationship information? Hope will neither confirm or deny anything, but says she has lots of special people in her life. A boy in every port then? That’s how I’m taking it until I hear otherwise. You forced my hand Hope.
Brynn McKenry of The Brynn Project interviewed Hope Solo yesterday.
DWTS: Hope has not watched a second of DWTS because she hasn’t had time to hardly turn on a tv (don’t need convincing, we know), but she DVRd it and plans to watch Maks’ stuff. Of course then the interviewer tells her yesterday’s results and Hope calls “Spoilers!” Ha! Now you know how we felt with the Brasil game spoilers, Hope.
About Maks: He was a tough instructor, but a nice guy. She had zero confidence with dancing and might have needed a softer touch, but gets how he could be so tough since she is the same way with soccer. Wasn’t sure if a change in tactics would have helped or not. She and Maks are friends for life. Went through waaaay too much not to be.
Almost lost her voice a few times. If willpower alone would fix it I think it would. She seemed annoyed about her GK rasp returning. Kinda cute.
Talked about her eating routine and workout routine (jump rope? *takes notes*) and the crazy schedule leading up to the Olympics with two weeks on, one week off and 2/days. The differences between her current routine and what she did for DWTS.
The guy who wrote the article was the one who wanted her. The organization didn’t want her though…and they remain nameless. If this is the petty way things were run…I am increasingly not surprised by the things that trickle out. Would a player of Hope’s caliber be passed up in any other sport? In any other pro league her record is essentially spotless and her game speaks for itself and she is a marketer’s dream.
“I felt that the Breakers needed star power to launch the team…meaning a player who could create buzz that transcended the sport, not simply a top performer. I felt there were three players on the USWNT who had that quality – Wambach (who we weren’t going to get), the brilliant but controversial goalkeeper Hope Solo, and Heather Mitts. As a promoter, my first instinct was Solo, but there was little support for her elsewhere in the organization. That left Heather and she was in a different category than Wambach or Solo, who were arguably in their peak years.”—The USWNT allocation process when WPS was launching. Teams were to pick their top three players they wanted. The Breakers passed on Solo. They must have forgotten the fact Hope got us the gold medal that year by denying Marta over and over again. Would a star player be passed up like this in any other sport? She isn’t a problem player. She’s a saint in the larger world of sports. Hate to say it, but if that is the welcome she got to the league after getting us the gold then yeah, returning to Sweden might have been the better choice. I wondered why she wasn’t picked up by a big market city. Asshats. She beats Marta 1 on 1 and Marta gets the royal treatment and Solo gets passed up. (I like Mitts too, but this is just crazy.)
Hope sweetheart no1 has! You’re the only reason people decided to tune in in the first place.
But at least she’s pulling for Maks.
Once you see the man behind the curtain it must be hard to watch “reality” shows again. Unless you are part of the Hollywood bread line and Hope most certainly isn’t. I hope Maks wins, but I mostly hope he gets on a better show.
“In general all three have an unmatched work rate away from the practice field. They never switch off. They go home and continue to search for ways to keep improving. Carli has clocked in more training miles then anyone in women’s soccer. She is by far the hardest working women’s soccer player on the planet. She is inspirational because she has achieved so much but trains like she has achieved nothing. Admirably, Heather has improved her ball handling skills and is a better player now then she ever was. Her entire life is dedicated to improving. Through injuries and setbacks she has continued to grow as a player. Hope is the fiercest competitor you will ever meet and is super intelligent tactically (organizing defense). She just loves to win and this desire brings her to a training level that is out of this world. Her training habits are the reason she is the best Women’s Goal Keeper to ever play the game.”
