Hope sweetheart no1 has! You’re the only reason people decided to tune in in the first place.
But at least she’s pulling for Maks.
Once you see the man behind the curtain it must be hard to watch “reality” shows again. Unless you are part of the Hollywood bread line and Hope most certainly isn’t. I hope Maks wins, but I mostly hope he gets on a better show.
“In general all three have an unmatched work rate away from the practice field. They never switch off. They go home and continue to search for ways to keep improving. Carli has clocked in more training miles then anyone in women’s soccer. She is by far the hardest working women’s soccer player on the planet. She is inspirational because she has achieved so much but trains like she has achieved nothing. Admirably, Heather has improved her ball handling skills and is a better player now then she ever was. Her entire life is dedicated to improving. Through injuries and setbacks she has continued to grow as a player. Hope is the fiercest competitor you will ever meet and is super intelligent tactically (organizing defense). She just loves to win and this desire brings her to a training level that is out of this world. Her training habits are the reason she is the best Women’s Goal Keeper to ever play the game.”
“Hope Solo is sitting in a conference room 22 floors above Wilshire Boulevard, weeping. Which is surprising for two reasons. For starters, Solo, arguably the most dominating soccer goalkeeper in the world, male or female, rarely sits still, dashing instead from the Women’s World Cup to “Dancing With the Stars,” from a charity event for tsunami victims in Japan to a TV interview in West Los Angeles. Second — and this is important — she rarely cries. That would suggest she’s vulnerable, and when your parents divorce before you’ve finished first grade, and when your father dies two months before the biggest tournament of your career, vulnerability is a trait you’re not allowed to show.”—
This is really sad. Her family can’t seem to catch a break. And it kind of explains her recent tweet from a hospital. And her coming to camp late in December. She’s a thoughtful softy once you get through the GK part.
Kate Deines was interviewed yesterday by Sounders podcast Nos Audietis. She talks a lot about the uncertainty after being drafted and dropped by the WPS, playing football while keeping a full time job, pinching herself a lot because of her current situation playing with NT members in soccer country, and was cute and almost fangirly from playing with Hope Solo at her back. She was surprised that Hope is actually shorter than her since Hope projects really big on the field. And is very vocal. Very. Vocal. LOL
Sad bit is how someone in her early 20s is already talking like another domestic pro league is something younger people might hope for. She obviously wishes to get a chance on the USWNT, the only place there is any real livelihood in soccer now, but she is also trying to get into law school. And this is why the US pool is going to get weak without pro league.
I don't have a twitter account so I was wondering if you or one of your followers could ask the unation twitter account when they'll have the sounders v seattle u game on demand. They said they'd have it up but hasn't been done yet. Thank you in advance.
I’ll send them a tweet. I’d like to see the first half where Hope had all of her saves if there were any.
Update: They got back to me and said they should have that game up later in the day.
“We didn’t know what to expect," said forward Sydney Leroux, who scored a hat trick in the 5-0 exhibition win against Seattle University on Friday night. "We got such a good showing on the first night (Monday), we didn’t know what was going to happen — did we do well enough for them to come back? Again, sold out, I think. It’s pretty amazing.”—Sounders Women forward Sydney Leroux | Read the rest here
Prost Amerika: I would be remiss not to mention that you’ve got Hope Solo, the world’s best goalkeeper behind you. How do you see your role as sweeper organizing the defense with her behind you?
Kate Deines: It definitely changes things! I was laughing a little bit at halftime I’m just so not use to having someone – I mean, I’ve played with great goalies – but someone of her caliber, you know she’s one of the best, probably the best in the world, and so I’m almost playing outside back and it’s a totally different feel for me. Once I got the hang of it, I was just like ‘We’re good, we’re good, we’ve got Hope back there.’ I just feel so honored to have the opportunity to play with her and the other national team girls.
Prost Amerika: Did she give you a lot of direction out on the field?
Kate Deines: Oh yeah, she’s super vocal and I’m so grateful for it! I’ll take any direction I can get! She’s a great communicator.
“Solo joins her fellow American, the L.A. Galaxy star Landon Donovan, as an ambassador of [Seiko]. It has not yet been announced when her own watches will launch, but the sportswoman is expected to be used in support of the wider Sportura range from autumn 2012. The Hope Solo special edition watches are anticipated to be available at retailers including The Watch Hut ( http://www.thewatchhut.co.uk ) shortly after release.”—Read the rest here.
