I love how she uses Twitter like real people do. That makes her one of the best athletes on Twitter IMO. She does the confessional tweets, the judging you tweets, and celebrity death conspiracy tweets, the wtf mullet tweets…and she actually reads and responds to her fans. I got a retweet once and I wasn’t even RT begging. I don’t know about you suckers, but I am going to die happy. A long time from now and many WC golds later I hope.
LOL. Collective jokes from Abby, Lauren, and Alex about Hope's passive-aggressive tweets. YES.
Downside: Yes, Hope and the rest of the team know how creepy and awful a lot of the tweets she gets are. Seriously, you can check them out yourself. Buy some brain bleach first. Upside: They clearly find her Hope!Smash tweeting hilarious.
Morgan: You don’t want to see what people write back to Hope. (about the creepers)
Abby: Because Hope gets into arguments.
The talk should be archived soon for later viewing. Lots of hilarious things like trying to explain to Abby what all the fake twitter accounts for her head etc mean. Abby isn’t aware of online fandom things. At all. She’s a total beginner and had to be forced to use twitter by her agent.
“Most egregious, yet-adorable, competitive statement of the night: Soccer star Hope Solo declaration to to partner Maks Chmerkivoskiy that she wants to be “the best” at everything she does. It’s hard to argue with a woman who won the “Golden Glove” at the World Cup soccer tournament, practices with the U.S. national soccer team in the morning, and learns how to jive in the afternoons.”—Time article | I think the best part of that whole thing was Maks and his face during that. The judges drew first blood and Hope took offense. Better buckle up, Maks.
Hope was in her trailer getting ready. And Sue Hovey, the executive editor who puts the whole ‘Body Issue’ together, walked in and was talking with Hope’s publicist, I think. They were telling the story about how they try to keep the names under wraps. At that point, Hope was like, ‘So I shouldn’t be tweeting out that I’m getting ready to go naked for ESPN The Magazine?’
LOL. Never change, Hope.
She should really come with a note that says her BlackBerry is part of the deal. Anyway, they struck gold there regardless. ESPN went in blindly early on in their support of the USWNT and between the ratings spike and Hope being loyal to them I think it has to have paid off for them.
Second thought…after DWTS it feels like Hope has already done a promo for that issue.
“As the goalkeepers wandered out for warm-ups, the crowd erupted and I witnessed the phenomenon that is Hope Solo. She’s an extremely talented goalkeeper and athlete, and her smile was contagious as she high fived some waiting fans as she ran out to complete pre-game drills. The crowd yelled messages of encouragement. Ok, they yelled a lot, and the screams varied from actual words to just extremely high pitched wails. Solo did her best to keep on task, waiving to the crowd at points while going through her pre-match drills.”—Cool review of the Portland game from a Timbers fan. I guess our players are rock stars now. Well, we already knew that, but everyone else is catching on.
